Welcome to McLeod, ND! McLeod is a historic village
of 26 people with a unique combination of history and nature! McLeod
has an abundance of well preserved historic buildings located in
the midst of the Sheyenne National Grasslands in Southeastern North
Dakota. Brown Ranch and Pigeon Point are found within the Sheyenne
Delta headquartered in the area, home to many Bald eagles, prairie
chickens, hummingbirds, and sharp–tailed grouse. The grasslands
also support one of the world’s largest populations of the
western prairie fringed orchid in the United States.
The McLeod Preservation Society maintains a set of buildings and
land known as the McLeod Museum Complex. The Museum includes:
• Presbyterian Church Museum: Built in 1909, the museum contains
an interesting history of the Prairie Grasslands, with pictures
and stories of early prairie life. Wedding dresses dating back to
the 1900’s are on display in this building, one for each decade
of the 1900’s.
• One Room School House: A fully operation one room school
house from 1906 to 2002! National news even visited this school
for a new clip on the only remaining one-room operational school
house in the nation!
• “Homestead” House: 125 years old
• SOO LINE Railroad Depot: The only remaining SOO LINE Railroad
Depot with original slate roof, built in 1906, and contains numerous
railroad artifacts.
• Andrew Johnson Memorial “Field of Dreams” Baseball
