DICKEY COUNTY WILDLIFE
Dickey County is host to two wildlife management refuge areas and
is part of a waterfowl protection area district. Wildlife observation
and wildlife photography is available year-round while hunting is
available pursuant to North Dakota hunting laws and regulations.
Johnson’s Gulch: 1,402 acres - Deer, tree squirrels, sharptails,
cottontails, waterfowl
Hyatt Slough: 1,354 acres - Waterfowl, pheasants, deer
Kulm Waterfowl Protection Area District: Dickey County is one of
the four counties that make up the district. Many migratory birds
may be found in the spring and in the fall. Giant Canada geese,
mallard, pintail, teal, gadwall, shoveler, and redhead are common
local nesting birds.
