Fishing - Wildlife Management Areas

     Fishing by County

Below is a list of federal and state wildlife management (WMA) areas. The name, location, and most common fishing species is listed for each County. Unless otherwise specified, the areas are open to fishing. Check out the North Dakota Hunting and Fishing link below for details on current fishing proclamations. Most WMAs are also ideal for nature study, hiking, and primitive camping.

Barnes County  

Blumers Lake

- One mile south of Valley City. Trout

Clausen Springs

- Three miles north of junction of Highways 46 and 1, then 1 mile east, and 1/2 mile north. Perch, largemouth bass - fishing pier, campground, recreation area, idle speed only.

Hobart Lake

- Five miles west of Valley City. Perch - winter fishery

Lake Ashtabula (Bald Hill Dam)

- Ten miles north of Valley City. Pike, perch, walleye, white bass, crappie, bluegill, smallmouth bass, bullhead - boat rentals, resorts, campgrounds

Moon Lake

- Two miles west of Valley City to Highway 1, then 51/2 miles south, 4 miles west, and 2 miles north. Perch, smallmouth bass, catfish.

St. Mary's Lake
- Two miles west of Valley City to Highway 1, then 51/2 miles south, 4 miles west, and 1 mile north. Perch - winter fishery
   
Dickey County  

Moores Lake

- Sixteen miles west, 1 mile north of Ellendale. Largemouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch.

Pheasant Lake

- Six miles west of Ellendale. Pike, perch, largemouth bass, bluegill, walleye, crappie, bullhead - handicap accessible fishing pier, campground, aeration system

Wilson Dam

- Seven miles west of Monango. Pike, largemouth bass, perch, - fishing pier, campground.

   
Foster County  

Dry Lake

- Four miles east of Bordulac. Perch.

Lake Juanita

- Two miles east of Grace City. Pike, perch, bullhead - fishing pier.

   
Griggs County  

Carlson- Tande Reservoir

- One mile south, five miles west of Aneta. Pike, perch, bluegill - gravel ramp.

Red Willow Lake

- Six miles north and 2 miles west of Binford. Bluegill, walleye, perch, pike - concession, boat rental, campground.

Sibley Lake

- One mile west and 3 miles south of Binford. Pike, perch - no ramp

   
LaMoure County  

Diamond Lake

- Four miles north of Kulm, 1 mile west. Pike, perch, bullheads - winter fishery

Flood Lake

- Three miles north of Kulm. Pike and Perch, bullheads.

Heinrich-Martin Dam

- One mile southeast of Adrian. Perch, crappie, bluegill, largemouth bass - picnic area,-electric motors only.

Kalmbach Lake
- One mile south, 41/2 miles west and 1/2 mile south of Jud. Pike and Perch.
Kulm-Edgeley Dam
- Four miles west of Edgeley and 2 miles south. Largemouth bass, pike, walleye, perch.
Lake LaMoure
- Four miles south of LaMoure. Walleye, bullhead, largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, pike - campground facilities.
Lehr Dam
- Eleven miles west of junction of Highways 281 and 46, 1/2 mile south. Pike, perch, bluegill, largemouth bass.
Limesand-Seefeldt
- Four miles east of Dickey, 21/2 miles south, 1 mile east, 1/2 mile south, 1/2 mile west. Perch, pike, bluegill, largemouth bass.
Schlecht-Thom Dam
- Five miles west of Edgeley and 1/2 mile north. Pike, perch, largemouth bass.
Schlecht-Weixel Dam
- Four miles south of Jud. Largemouth bass and Pike.
   
Logan County  

Beaver Lake

- One mile north and 1 mile east of Burnstad. Pike, perch, bullhead - fishing pier, State Park Campground.

Logan WMA (Muehler) Lake

- Nine miles east of Burnstad and 1/2 mile south. Perch - winter fishery

West Lake Napoleon

- Two miles west of Napoleon. Pike and Perch

Mundt Lake
- Three miles east of Lehr, 4 miles north and 1 mile east. Pike, perch - winter fishery.
Rudolph Lake
- Fourteen miles east and 1 mile south of Napoleon. Walleye and Perch - electric motors only.
   
McIntosh County  

Blumhardt Lake

- Ten miles east, 7 miles north, and 11/2 miles east of Ashley. Trout, largemouth bass.

Coldwater Lake

-- Sixteen miles east, 1 mile south, and 1 mile west of Ashley. Pike, perch, walleye - aeration system, small campground.

Dry Lake

- Two miles north, 2 miles west of Ashley. Perch, pike, walleye, bullhead.

Green Lake
- Two miles east, 4 miles south, and 1 mile east of Wishek. Pike, perch, walleye - campground.
Lake Hoskins
- Three miles west of Ashley. Pike, perch, bullhead, walleye - campground, picnic area, nice facilities, aeration system.
   
Ransom County  

Dead Colt Creek Dam

- Five miles south, 1 mile east, 1/2 mile north, and 1/2 mile east of Lisbon. Largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, walleye, bullhead, bluegill - fishing pier, campground

   
Steele County  

Golden Lake WMA

-579 acres; 10 miles east and 3 miles north of Finley. Fishing, waterfowl.

Otto Spies WMA

-870 acres; 6 miles east and 1 mile south of Hope. Waterfowl, deer, Huns, pheasants. Duck boat access

   
Stutsman County  

Barnes Lake

- One mile east and 6 miles north of Woodworth. Pike, walleye, perch.

Clark Lake

- One mile west, 3 miles north and 4 miles west of Woodworth. Pike and perch.

Jamestown Reservoir

- Two miles north of Jamestown. Perch, pike, walleye, crappie, bluegill, smallmouth bass, bullhead - boat rental, resorts, campground.

Jim Lake (Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge)
- Six miles east of Pingree. Pike, perch, bullhead, walleye, crappie - 25 horsepower maximum motor, closed to boats after September 30.
Mallard Marsh
- One mile east and 7 miles north of Woodworth. Pike and Perch - winter fishery
Pipestem Dam
- Four miles northwest of Jamestown. Walleye, pike, bluegill, crappie, perch - campground
Spiritwood Lake
- Ten miles north of Jamestown on Highway 20, then 4 miles east. Walleye, perch, pike, smallmouth bass - fishing pier, campground, resorts

Spiritwood Lake Field Station WMA

-27 acres; 15 miles northeast of Jamestown. Fishing. Closed to hunting.

   
Wells County  

Harvey Dam

- Just southeast of Harvey. Pike, perch, crappie, walleye, bullhead - fishing pier, campground.

Sykeston Dam

- On northwest edge of Sykeston. Pike, perch, crappie, bullhead - campground.
